My Crime Fighting Strategy
The role of the District Attorney is challenging and requires a clear sense of purpose in order to effectively serve the people. Through my vast experiences as a prosecutor, I have identified several factors that collectively comprise the winning formula for success as an office.
First, it is important to aggressively target the most dangerous defendants in the community. In a system of limited resources it is important to remember that if everything is a priority, than nothing is a priority. I will devote a considerable amount of energy toward targeting violent criminals and putting them in prison where they belong.
Second, I firmly believe that the best way to achieve success in investigations and prosecutions is the implementation of a police/prosecutor team approach. I want to build bridges of trust with local law enforcement and work together to realize our collective goal of achieving justice in all cases.
Third, I believe that it is important for the District Attorney to lead by example and personally handle the biggest cases in office. I will set the tone for the entire team by being in the courtroom and taking a hands-on approach to fighting crime.
Fourth, it is crucial to recognize that although law enforcement has historically respected jurisdictional boundaries, criminals do not. I will employ a coordinated regional approach to combat the changing nature of crime in our area, and draw heavily upon my contacts in surrounding counties to accomplish this mission.
Fifth, I will partner with other area leaders, both within the criminal justice system and the larger community, to better realize the goal of crime prevention . In doing this, I will commit to speaking at every middle school and high school in the District on an annual basis.
Finally, I will continue to be a strong voice for the victims of violent crime, in the courtroom, in the community, and in the legislature.
- Keep our community safe through the aggressive prosecution of violent criminals and repeat offenders.
- Give victims of crime a strong voice in the courtroom.
- Use a police/prosecutor team approach to fight crime.
- Assume personal leadership and responsibility of the biggest cases in the district.
- Employ a coordinated regional approach to maximize the effectiveness of the criminal justice system.
- Prevent crime by building stronger community partnerships.
- Commit to equal justice under the law, regardless of personal ties or political affiliation.
